The project focuses on the design of urban equipment within the context of enhancing public space. The site is located in the Park of Kerameikos, in the center of Athens—an area characterized by a dynamic mix of history and modern life, where passersby often pause to sit on the grass.
Given the location, the primary objective of the design was to create a multipurpose temporary resting unit that serves as a stopping point for visitors. The design aimed to offer users both the opportunity for isolation and socialization, resulting in the creation of a spiral form.
The spiral's geometry unfolds within the space, forming seating areas where users can sit either facing each other or side by side, depending on the desired distance between them. This flexibility allows for a variety of social interactions and personal space preferences.
Additionally, the spiral invites exploration, engaging passersby and transforming them into active participants. Constructed from reinforced concrete, the unit reflects the primary material of Athenian buildings, while its surfaces are envisioned as a canvas for street artists, offering them the opportunity to leave their mark and further integrate the structure into the urban fabric.
